Spot the fuschia lipstick

Lately, I’ve been thinking of creating a new category of my favourite style classics. That’s the new ICONIC category… under FASHION REINVENTS ITSELF… I’m pretty sure this classification is acute as, imho & in my books, no style element can be considered as iconic if it’s not a classic, if it can’t survive these fast-changing trends  in fashion… or it can’t live the million lives our decades try to steal to it.

So, it’s no surprise that a Yves Saint Laurent creation takes the lead as it is one of my favourite style elements. Safe and efficient. Read and you’ll get it… [The below text is one I wrote for a travel website under its Parisian shopping tips... in 2006... I guess here is its best and most appopriate place].

*… It’s all about a lipstick. YSL n°19 is amongst mythical beauty products. Very hip in the 80s when bright colours were popular, the deep fuschia shade is amongst my favourite ones. What can I say? I am amongst the happy ones who can afford sporting both fuschia lipstick & blush without looking like a clown!

As a teen, I used to tint my lips with a fuschia lip pencil (not YSL though). Guess where the idea came from ? From a picture of a YSL collection model wearing a fuschia silk blouse & black pants. lol. I wore my fuschia with jeans & khaki pants. When the nude look took over the 90s minimalist & brown era, fuschia was not fashionable anymore. It resisted, spotted on the canvases of the confident faces, those who managed to keep their own allure & style whatever the trend. Years 2000, we are back into colours and glam make-up. Robert Plant girls with their charcoal smoky eyes & red lips are hip again. At same time, the pink wavetide hit each side of the globe. Fuschia ? It is not coming back. It had been a timeless shade (Fact that YSL used to maintain #19 into its ever-changing collections goes to show it), fashion-vistims had just rediscovered it. It is hip again.

Real women of style? They knew about which shades suit their style & remained loyal to them (the shades, not necessarily the brands). Thank God, the true style world doesn’t use to be this secular as in the past anymore. Wear red, nude, pink, plum, everything but be true to & confident in yourself !

This creamy Fuschia now is worn with smoky eyes in black, purple, blue hues. There must be some balance however. Do I need to say I love make-up ? 20-25 euros for lipstick;Around 30 euros for duo eyeshadows. “

I didn’t mention but I have a Biotherm lipstick in deep fuschia too… rather moisturizing and less creamy, less covering than the Saint-Laurent #19. Serves as a daily fuschia lipstick whereas the YSL is for more glamorous looks.

That’s not counting on this weird brain and, ho ho, this season we’re basking in: end of year celebrations’… The brain is haunted by the vision of this cuff. A glamorous pic of it in an old  2009 edition of UK Harper’s Bazaar I recently retrieved from its cache. That I eagerly browsed. Again.

Ah! but this cuff will reconcile me with this lace to be worn “above” (as opposed to lace on “under”wear, which I used to prefer… so far).

Designed by a jewel genious whose outstanding designs used to be rather simple but inspired and modern. The cuff would be reportedly made from a cotton lace that was dropped into 18-k gold… You see, it will suit my very classical, sober and almost minimalistic attire. Here is wherer my dreamings lead me.

Now, as I cannot afford it (not even in the far futur), I’m seriously thinking of having it made by local jewelers (not immediately, though). I can imagine those brahmans who are used to very thin intertwining. Or another bijoutier, other than a brahman, which would be adventurous enough to try the technique. Nice, eh ?

This post is the first of the “In my dreams…” series . Things, attires, situations, ideas which keep me haunted… long enough to inspire me to post about them.

Am so pedi-obsessed. The bf would love a focus on the hands.

To do manucure. While I’m eager to go for a pedi (do it myself), the mani is… nearly out of sight. What to say, I do crochet a lot these days (working on an order of this item: my ninth bag design). Just the thought of a chaffing enamel after some hours it is applied… Aaaargh!

To pamper the bf. This guy who wakes up at 4.30am deserves the best. Meaning:

- The right deco (now, I’d be happy if I could have it perfectly cleaned everyday). Started surpervising the maid to have her working properly. “Home management”, I would call it. Anyway, would like a whole revamp of the house.;

- The right food (with fruit and fresh vegs to go with the main course). I’ve been neglecting this aspect for days. A bad flu on hot summer days. Killed me! Yesterday was the worst, he hated the food and I couldn’t do anything. Now, I’m back on track. Very able to multi-task again: the fun job of bag designing, the food, the man… and…

- The gal with the right mani. Yes, bf likes my nails coloured. Loves the orange hue on my toenails, wishes I apply some on my handnails. Almost done, my man!

When I realized that the end was near, after those months of worrying, designing and crochetting, I started thinking of a name for this model. Won’t argue about the need for dubbing my designs. Hey! they are my babies!

Sooooo…. Began searching. “Eventail” or “Fan” was so obvious given the patterns of the crochet work. Trouble is, Eventail – Fan was  already the name of the first Greenmorpho- By Sy bag design ever. Remember ? Anyway, must have a thing for fans… Don’t know.

Well, I do know. As I wrote once in another post, I love ravinala trees and they are that inspired me to work on these patterns.

Then, on a fine clear day, I remember… oh… so well the time, the pain, the worrying, the discouragement that came with this particuliar model. This model has known weeks of “left-aside-status”. Happens when tired of the intricacies of a peculiar model, I just leave it aside to work on another model, on orders…etc… in the hope of clearing out my mind and getting back to it refeshed and renewed. It  like work-left aside status-work-left aside status-work… *Sigh*

Told to myself “gotta love this model to invest yourself that much in it“.

Yes, Love! it was.

Now, would it overcome celebs crazes Gérard Darel’s 24h Syracuse and its Baby variation ? Seen on Angelina (beige & grey), Cameron (yellow for her), Penelope…
